Two-Masted Stick-up Flatties

in the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum Collection

Howard Chapelle published plans and discussed the history of small crabbing flatties with a “stick-up” or “jigger” headsail and a single mast in American Small Sailing Craft (Figure. 113) and Chesapeake Bay Crabbing Skiffs (Figure 2).  I believe that this is the first time historic photos of a two-masted stick-up crabbing skiff have ever been published.
